Poetry Corner: Ode to a Cat

Here’s a presentation on a cat with constipation
Who showed some consternation when attempting defecation.
He’s been on medication and we hoped investigation
Would reveal some information on his need for lactulose.

Enema administration failed to help evacuation
And despite the lubrication caused the cat great irritation.
It had some infiltration but before long his sedation
Was in need of augmentation so we gave another dose.

It seemed our ministrations were excessive in duration
And left us with frustration by the time of their cessation.
Scans gave no explanation and at their culmination
A cat’s sense of indignation had never been so strong.

It felt like in summation we just caused him aggravation
Seeking colon dilatation which evaded observation.
But we think stressful situations may be the real causation
So I have the strange sensation he’ll be backed up before long.
