Vet School = 6 Years of (Hand) Abuse

We've started on something called the "treatments rota" this year. Basically, this means following the charts the final-year students write up and dealing out all the medication (unless rotations get in the way, in which case rotations win).

This may not sound like much, but since several animals are prescribed things for every 12 hours, every 4 hours, maybe even every 2 hours... realistically, since we must all show up for 8am, 4pm and 8pm meds, and try to be there for any in between, this is a week of pretty much just living in the vet school.

This is especially true in my case, since I'm theoretically resting my knee - this should technically mean getting the bus instead of cycling, but the relevant bus stops running around 8pm, leaving my choices as "cycle both ways" or "rest knee on way in, kill it again by walking a couple of miles home". To limit the cycling as much as possible, I'm only cycling each way once each day: leave home before 7.30pm, return when 8pm treatments round is done +30mins travel.

On the first round this morning I ended up doing dogs - I really do love working with dogs, so happy days if you don't mind that all the medication is in tablet form (non-vets: this means putting it down their throats by basically getting your whole hand down there) and that two of the dogs were very big with very gooey mouths.

Nothing quite like "I think I'll just put my entire hand in this Staffie's mouth" as a great way to start the day...
