I left the blog alone for a while for a few reasons, one of which was certainly the general lack of time I had to dedicate to it - I'm somewhat ashamed of quite how many posts on this blog contain the phrase "I will give a more detailed update when I have time", or near equivalents.
However, the factor that swayed me for a while was privacy concerns. I received anonymous and really quite malicious comments at least once a month while this blog was fully public and very active, and while very unpleasant to deal with, especially on my darker days, this in itself was not the problem. These comments made me aware of quite how exposed I was making myself to anyone who made the effort to find me.
I'm aware that employers are likely to Google me before hiring. To that end, while I don't particularly feel I have anything to hide, I also don't want the possibility of having a post dissected (and, at worst, brought up in interview as evidence that I'm an unfit candidate) by a potential boss weighing in my mind while I write. I know it will lead to constant attempts to self-censor, which will make writing each post take up significantly more of my short supply of time than they already do.
That said, I have honestly missed the experience of keeping a blog. I like recording my stories before they disappear from memory, and I like doing it in a way that I can share with others.
So, from now on, viewing of this blog will be restricted to those I invite.
