Sad thing is, I can still watch all of *this* film but had to stop after 15min of Twilight.

We put on Batman & Robin tonight as background noise for work. If you've seen this film, you'll know why it makes a great exam term break for science students.

If not, here's the film's take on why villains exist:

1: Bane.
Venom + skinny man = Mexican pro wrestler!

2: Poison Ivy
Dead(?) PlantSci geek + every chemical in the lab + vines + motherfucking SNAKES = humanoid poisonous-yet-obsession-inducing-plant (tobacco?).

3: Mr Freeze
Molecular biologist + vat of cryogenics chemicals = lost member of the Blue Man Group who can't survive without ice/cold/freeze puns.

Yep, no need to engage brain for this one!

Why such terrible backstories? Presumably a poorly-executed attempt to honour the golden age mythology and take us back to a more innocent time when BECAUSE FUCK YOU SCIENCE THAT'S WHY.

Did Bella annoy you that much?

Bella? You mean [Insert Yourself Here, Teenage Girl]? :P

I have no doubt that a lot of people found Twilight entertaining, but it seemed to work out exactly what I can't stand about teenager-centric films and deliberately pile it on. :P The problems were maybe with my own opinions and sore spots more than anything else.

I didn't do a post on Twilight directly because (apart from not being able to see the whole thing for a complete opinion) I know I'd have gone into too much of a rant... the way the Bella character is written (not necessarily how the role is acted) would have been a part of it, the giant insult to previous pop-or-classic mythology that is "sparkly vegetarian vampires squee!" would have been another.

Knowing the plot of the books didn't help, since abusive relationships are the kind of thing that pushes most of my rant buttons - glorifying that kind of relationship as an amazing immortal love, and having a main character that teen girls are intended to project themselves onto continually justify her boyfriend's abusive behaviour, pushes all buttons, breaks the monitor screen and rips out some of the circuit boards.

Yeah... I ranted a bit... :S
