New directions

Moving out
Housing is, as I said, an issue, and may cause me to move back into a college-owned room at some point before the year's out. I'm not quite sure anymore what my preference is - the house is a nice place to live, it's a proper house, and it's nice to feel sort-of independent living out of college accommodation.

However, I have been told I could probably be given a really good room in one of the grad hostels (central, ensuite, recently refurbished; chosen initially by someone at the top of the room ballot, who then gave up and moved somewhere else instead rather than wait out the refurbishment); it would really be handy since it would be so much more affordable and in a pretty good location for the vet school and an excellent one for everything else.

The other option I apparently have is to take one of the remaining rooms in A-F staircases in Burrell's Field - a convenient 10-15 mins by bike from the vet school and reasonably close to the rest of town, but not available to me for more than a year, unlike the grad hostel room which I could potentially keep for the rest of my time in Cambridge.

So yeah, generally prospects seem better for moving out than staying put; chances are that if I did stay put for now I'd have to relocate in February or so anyway because of the situation. Hopefully I'll know better what's going on by the end of the week.

Moving up
Clinical school has now officially started for me and the rest of the year - the orientation programme has just finished, leaving us aglow with some essential wisdom and with the right proper fear of God instilled in us ("You can't act like undergraduates anymore! You are professionals now! We expect professional manner from you!").

It's all very exciting though, especially since we'll finally be doing lots of consultations, patient examination, vaccinations, minor surgeries and so on as part of Extra-Mural Studies. Yes, we do those things in the vacation. Can't miss lectures you know.

Again, I'll be able to tell you more at the end of the week, since we haven't technically had any classes yet.

Moving on
I'm thinking of shaking things up a bit as far as the blog goes. While the term "Uh - WTF??" does indeed cover quite a lot of the undergrad anecdotes that made it on here, each time I've looked at the title in the past few days, it really has reminded me more and more of that feeling when you put on an old favourite sweater and realise it just doesn't have the same feel of comfortable familiarity you're used to - because it doesn't fit, or it's started to itch a bit, or your style's changed... knitwear analogy being as accessible as it is, I'm sure you get the idea.

It feels quite a lot like that blog covers a finished-but-not-gone phase of my life, and that a change is in order - the question is, what new direction should the blog take? Don't get me wrong - chances are, this will be exactly the same setup as before, only with slightly different content and perhaps a different update schedule (schedule? pffft) due to time constraints. What I'm really considering is a new appearance and perhaps a better, vettier title.

Stick around. Things are just about to get interesting.
